If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription but no Azure subscriptions

You can log in to the Azure portal using your Microsoft 365 user name and password and create a subscription. Then return to the GoSmarter tool setup and login using the same credentials. The subscription you created will appear in the Key Information section.

Creating an Azure Subscription

  1. Log into the Azure portal at portal.azure.com.
  2. Click or search for “Subscriptions” and select Add New.
  3. Click + Add to create a new subscription. Azure will guide you through the process of creating a subscription. If your Azure account is new you will qualify for a free trial subscription, which provides free credits for Azure services. Note: You will need to provide credit card details for verification when you set up a Free Trial subscription, but you will not be charged for services unless you upgrade to a Pay as you Go subscription later.

If you do not have a Microsoft 365 subscription

Follow this tutorial from Microsoft to create a free Azure account.

After you have created the account, you will need to create a user that can set up the GoSmarter tools:

  1. Log in to your Azure free account.
  2. In the search bar at the top of the portal, search for and select “Azure Active Directory”.
  3. On the Active Directory blade, select Users.
  4. Select + New User.
  5. On the New User blade, enter a name for the user. Note that the account will have your domain followed by .onmicrosoft.com.
  6. Under Groups and Roles, click User next to Roles and make sure that Global Administrator is checked.
  7. Click Create.
  8. Log out of Azure, log in as the user you just created, and follow the instructions above to create a subscription.

Return to the GoSmarter tool setup and login using the same credentials. The subscription you created will appear in the Key Information section.
